General FAQs

Where is my data stored?
Information you enter into QuickTax is securely stored on Intuit's servers, and will be automatically deleted in December 2009 when the tax year 2007 service goes offline. Our data centre operates under strict security guidelines to protect your information and comply with CRA requirements. Extensive backup systems guard against data loss.

We recommend you print a PDF copy of your tax return for your files prior to December 2009. You can also download your tax file (.q07) to your hard drive. This allows you to read your tax file with the relevant year of QuickTax, or to carry forward data into the following year's version of QuickTax.

Does QuickTax guarantee the accuracy of the calculations?
Yes. QuickTax is 100% accurate and will ensure that your taxes are filed properly. Our guarantee to you is backed up by our warranty - if you are levied a penalty by the CRA solely because of a calculation error using QuickTax, we'll pay that penalty on your behalf. Please read our License and Services Agreement and Limited Warranty carefully for the details of our Limited Warranty.

* Does not include calculation errors due to errors in CRA tables.

How do I get technical support if I need it?
Call: 1-514-227-3062. Technical phone support is available 8 a.m. - 12 a.m. (Midnight) Eastern Time, 7 days/week (January 22 - April 30, 2008). Long distance charges may apply. Click here for more information.

Is there a risk of my QuickTax session ending without me logging out?
Yes, in your own best interest. To protect the integrity of your tax information, QuickTax is designed to end your session after a period of inactivity. This is basically a "timeout" feature. Once the period has passed without any activity taking place on the screen, QuickTax will assume that you have stepped away from your workstation and do not wish to continue at that particular time, thereby logging you off automatically.

If this happens, you have to log on again with your username and password to enable QuickTax to verify your identity and allow you to resume.

What makes QuickTax such a fast method of completing personal tax returns?
With QuickTax there's no software to download or install to prepare your tax return. If you're familiar with completing your tax return by pen and paper, then the mere fact that you don't have to find your way through and decipher a large selection of government forms (two sets of forms if you are a Québec resident) will save you time. Plus, you don't have all the complicated calculations to worry about. Basically, all you need to do is have your tax information handy and answer QuickTax's questions at your own pace.

How do I check the status of the return I sent to the CRA via NETFILE?
During your NETFILE session on the CRA NETFILE Web site, CRA will present you with a confirmation that they have received your tax return via NETFILE. Alternatively, they will let you know immediately if the tax return was accepted as submitted, or if for some reason your return could not be filed electronically.

If you are eligible for a CRA refund, you can check the status of your refund online. Visit the CRA T.I.P.S. online services now.

A similar online service is also available for Revenu Québec. Check your Revenu Québec refund status now.
